Before Prohibition, Toledo's downtown was alive with wine rooms and hidden speakeasies. Behind unmarked doors and down dimly lit stairs, locals gathered to share stories, celebrate life, and enjoy carefully crafted wines. It was a time when community happened over a glass, where every sip carried the weight of tradition and the thrill of the forbidden. Then came 1920, and it all went quiet.
For over a century, downtown Toledo hasn't had a wine manufacturing facility. The wine rooms disappeared. The community spaces faded. But the stories? They stayed buried, wating for someone to bring them back to life.
That someone is us.
We are not just Toledo's first wine manufacturing facility since prohibition. We are the keepers of those lost stories. In our Wine Room, we are bringing back what Toledo once had: an intimate space where history lives, wine flows, and community happens
Step into our working winery for a dual journey through time and wine. Our Historic Wine Tours combine a behind-the-scenes look at our modern winemaking process with an immersive exploration of Toledo's rich pre-Prohibition wine culture. As we guide you through our fermentation rooms and show you our equipment in action, we'll transport you back to the 1910s when wine rooms flourished throughout downtown Toledo.
Discover the hidden stories of Toledo's speakeasy era – the secret wine rooms tucked beneath storefronts, the bootleggers who kept the tradition alive during Prohibition, and the vibrant community that gathered around wine long before it was forbidden. Learn about the original wine merchants who operated in these very neighborhoods, how they made their wines, and what happened to Toledo's wine culture when everything changed overnight in 1920.
This isn't just a facility tour or a history lesson. It is both. You'll understand not only how we make our wines today but why bringing wine manufacturing back to downtown Toledo matters so much. Our owners weave together the technical skill of winemaking with the colorful characters and compelling stories that make Toledo's wine heritage so unique. By the end, you'll see our operation as part of a continuing story that connects past to present.
We're not just going to pour wine and tell you it's good. During our tastings, we'll actually walk you through what makes each varietal different , why we picked certain grapes, where we source them from, and how we turn them into the wines you're tasting. You'll get the real story behind each bottle, from vineyard to glass.
We will share our process with you- how we ferment, age, and blend our wines. We are not trying to impress you with fancy wine talk, but we do want you to understand what's happening in your glass. Why does this wine taste different from that one? How do we get those flavors? What decisions did we make along the way? You will leave knowing a lot more about wine (and Toledo) than when you walked in.
But here's where it gets fun - we don't always do regular tastings. We mix things up with events like Pours and Pilates, where you can stretch and sip. Wicks and Wine, where you make candles while we pour. Glass blowing and wine, pottery and wine - basically, we pair wine with experiences that make the whole thing more interesting. Because wine should be enjoyed, not just analyzed.
Whether you're already into wine or just getting started, our tastings give you real knowledge without the pretension. You'll understand what you're drinking and why, but you'll also have a good time doing it.
After the tour and tasting, this is where the real magic happens and where we bring back what Toledo's original wine rooms were really about. Back in the day, wine rooms weren't just places to drink; they were community hubs where strangers became friends, business deals were made over a glass, and neighbors gathered to share stories and celebrate life's moments.
We've recreated that same atmosphere. The Wine Room becomes your space to unwind, meet new people, and enjoy the kind of genuine conversations that used to happen in Toledo's pre-Prohibition wine rooms. This isn't a rush-you-out-the-door kind of place - just like the originals, we want you to settle in, connect with other guests, and experience what these spaces were always meant to be: places where community happens naturally.
Whether you're here with friends or flying solo, you'll find it easy to strike up conversations with fellow wine lovers. The intimate setting naturally encourages the same kind of mingling that made the old wine rooms so special. Stay a while, order another glass, and let the evening unfold the way it did a century ago - without schedules or pressure.
Of course, if you fall in love with any of our wines, you can take some home. Browse our retail selection and we'll help you pick out bottles that match your taste or make great gifts. But honestly, just like in the original wine rooms, the best thing you might take home is a new friendship or two.
